This qualification reflects the role of individuals who service, diagnose and repair electrical systems and components in vehicles in the automotive electrical service and repair industry.

Packaging Rules – 32 Units consisting of 21 Core and 11 Electives 

Core Units – All Core units must be completed and cannot be changed.

  • Repair wiring harnesses and looms
  • Install ancillary electronic systems and components.
  • Test and repair basic electrical circuits
  • Diagnose and repair spark ignition engine management systems.
  • Diagnose and repair compression ignition engine management systems.
  • Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair instruments and warning systems.
  • Diagnose and repair charging systems.
  • Diagnose and repair starting systems.
  • Diagnose and repair ignition systems.
  • Diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems.
  • Apply knowledge of petrol and diesel engine operation.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic body management systems.
  • Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies.
  • Inspect and service engines.

Prerequisite for the below units in bold

  • Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles.

  • Carry out servicing operations.
  • Diagnose complex system faults.
  • Inspect and service braking systems.
  • Diagnose and repair cooling systems.
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace.
